Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Process Engineer is responsible for improving and streamlining the company’s production workflows. They will analyze the current processes and determine areas that need modification. In collaboration with our project teams, they will create solutions and lead the development of piping and instrument diagrams. The Process Engineer will also oversee the implementation of the new processes and test them to ensure efficiency.

DUTIES:

  • Advise and provide support on the technical aspects of new production equipment including material and energy balances, process equipment specifications/limitations, and process control systems
  • Support technical transfer activities by developing, configuring and optimizing cannabinoid-based processes from inception through to process validation
  • Investigate and troubleshoot problems that arise with processes, procedures, and operations
  • Generate and review piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID’s) to ensure accuracy and correctness – proofing, conformance with business operability, environment health and safety (EHS) guidelines and good engineering practice
  • Communicate with vendors to finalize design requirements for process equipment
  • Co-ordinate with third-party engineering consultants and contractors
  • Develop best practices, routines and innovative solutions to improve production rates and quality of output
  • Troubleshoot technical scale up issues that arise with process equipment and utility constraints
  • Support the risk mitigation activities such as risk assessments associated with new product/process introduction
  • Provide technical support during the installation and commissioning of new equipment and automation, as required
  • Consult on validation and technical transfer activities involving process and utility equipment
  • Provide guidance, support and act as direct resource to the team undertaking the scale up process development feasibility studies

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in process engineering or other related engineering field
  • 5+ years of experience as a process engineer, preferably working in the cannabis industry or a GMP environment in pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, or related process industry
  • Professional Engineer designation
  • Proven ability to identify, assess and solve problems
  • Proficient with computer and information technology
  • Familiarity with applicable health and safety regulations
  • Organizational and record-keeping skills with an ability to handle multiple projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail, with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Able to successfully obtain clear criminal record check
