In this new role, the Inventory Data Specialist will be the liaison between a number of stakeholders, developing and implementing the master data management standards, administering data governance procedures and ensuring data integrity across multiple platforms. This includes working with cross-functional teams to capture, input and perpetually cleanse key master data assets and promote best practices for master data management.

The Inventory Data Specialist is expected to have a working knowledge and an up-to-date understanding of a supply chain organization including related processes and systems such as Marketing, Sales, Operations, Logistics, and GS1/ECCnet. An awareness of the features, benefits and value of global standards for master data is considered an asset.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provide cross-functional coordination in the collection, validation and input of data elements to support business and customer needs
  • Realize the creation, change and extension of product codes, including all due diligence (evaluation of the correct configuration of parameters, datasets, verifications and controls)
  • Manage the item codes, finished product portfolio and non-inventoried items for the Canadian market, ensuring the product master data is consistent, complete and compliant
  • Implement and follow the listing process of a product and the data assets requirements of our customers
  • Issue, track and maintain GTINs for the commercialization of the products of the business
  • Provide interpretation of data standards and GS1 rules as needed in key innovation routines. Implement new data standards and update attributes as they are defined and rolled out through GS1
  • Implement processes and governance to ensure data integrity, data standards, and change management of data across multiple groups and systems
  • Identify patterns and trends in data and define new data collection and analysis processes
  • Develop reporting metrics to measure compliance to and achievement of data quality goals
  • Identify areas where data quality can be improved and provide guidance to resolve
  • Proactively identify technology needs for controls, security and processing solutions for master data elements to strengthen data quality standards, tools and processes

 Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Business, Science or Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience working with master data in a supply chain organization, preferably in operations
  • Retail or CPG industry experience preferred
  • Understanding of GS1 Global Standards
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to review data, recognize patterns, formulate conclusions and propose alternatives
  • Extensive Excel skills and knowledge of other MS Office applications
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work cross-functionally and with different levels
  • Attention to detail to ensure data quality and integrity
  • Ability to work independently and have a process-improvement mindset
