The Human Resources Manager is responsible for supporting the day to day Human Resources services. Reporting into the Director, Human Resources, this role will work within a team to support Valens employees in all Human Resources disciplines, including policy and program development and implementation, employee relations and performance management, succession planning, and training and development.  The ideal candidate will have sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, comprehensive knowledge and experience in employment legislation, and thrives in a fast-paced and growing business.

DUTIES:

  • Provide guidance and coaching to People Managers on HR policies, procedures and employee relations matters, including performance and attendance management, conflict resolution, formal/informal investigations and follow up action items
  • Act as the subject matter expert and key resource for the implementation, facilitation and support of organizational strategies for effective employee relations
  • Track, coach and follow through of performance and attendance management
  • Guide, facilitate and be an effective change agent during all transformational initiatives, ensuring a positive employee experience throughout
  • Facilitate and execute internal and external training and development initiatives, including delivery of internal programs
  • Monitor employment legislative initiatives, anticipate the effects of impending legislation on the organization, and develop action plans for timely compliance. Ensure proper compliance with all employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate and support the organization by facilitating the internal recruitment process, including testing, interviewing, and coaching managers on candidate selection based on predefined criteria
  • Support the external talent acquisition process in coordination with our Recruiter, as necessary
  • Contribute to the Human Resources annual strategic planning, implementation, execution and roll-out of HR programs and processes
  • Acting back up for HRIS system, administration and support as required
  • Coach the HR Generalist and act as their point of escalation as required
  • Manage multiple priorities in an energetic, fast-paced environment
  • Participate in committees, analytical reporting and other ad hoc projects and initiatives as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificate, diploma or degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or related field
  • 7 – 10 years Human Resources experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with Canadian Employment Standards legislation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; should be able to adapt communication style to suit different audiences
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail and focus on accuracy in written language, data and analysis
  • Strong problem-solving skills along with an analytical approach
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a strong sense of urgency
  • Exercise discretion and sound judgement with the ability to reliably and professionally handle sensitive information
  • Successful completion of a criminal record check
