Corporate Development Analyst

Valens is looking for a Corporate Development Analyst to join our Corporate Development team based in our Toronto office. The team is active across a number of transactions with a strong pipeline of deal opportunities. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the company’s overarching strategy, transaction process, and overall development of strategic business ideas.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The individual will be assigned a wide variety of projects and given as much responsibility as their experience and capabilities permit, some of which may include:

  • Research and analysis to support the evaluation of strategic transactions (M&A), including but not limited to financial modelling, preparation of presentation materials and conducting due diligence
  • Support the valuation process for potential transactions, including building Excel-based valuation models that consider business-specific earnings and cash flow projections, accretion/dilution, capital impact, and other transaction metrics
  • Work closely with other members of the Corporate Development team in the analysis and assessment of acquisition/divestiture opportunities to identify suitable transaction opportunities
  • Provide analytical and project management support in transaction situations from due diligence to portfolio integration
  • Support the preparation of reports and oral and written presentations that present analysis and conclusions in a clear and concise manner about transaction opportunities and a variety of industry-related topics
  • Maintain databases to monitor M&A activity, financing activity, current and developing legislation and other industry trends
  • Develop financial tools to evaluate the company’s internal operational performance in strategic areas

Required Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Strong organization and communication skills, including the ability to quickly respond to requests from internal and external counterparties
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, intellectual ability and time management skills
  • Work ethic and motivation with a willingness to work for extended hours including evenings and weekends when required
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment


  • 1+ years of experience in Financial Services (investment banking, equity research, corporate finance, big-4 accounting or other relevant experience)
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or accounting
  • An interest in the cannabis industry
  • CFA, CA, or CPA designation is considered an asset
