Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller plays the critical role within the Company of overseeing the effective functioning of the Accounting team to ensure accurate accounting of the Company’s business activities.  This role will oversee the day-to-day activities of the Accounting team, including the supervision of the Office Manager and Revenue Accountant.  This role reports to the Director of Finance.

DUTIES:

  • Actively involved in the overall planning and coordination of all accounting functions
  • Recommend, implement and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and procedures
  • Manage daily tasks of Accounting staff
  • Oversee full cycle accounting including revenue, accounts receivable, purchases, accounts payable, capital assets and cash management
  • Review and approve all recurring and non-recurring accounting entries and monthly reconciliations; ensure accurate and timely recording of transactions in the General Ledger
  • Oversee semi-monthly payroll and ensure that it is processed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Oversee accurate and timely reporting of periodic filings for GST, EHT, Excise tax and WorkSafe BC premiums
  • Responsible for treasury functions including cash management
  • Assist in the implementation of new systems or software to automate certain financial and accounting processes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in delivering Company-wide initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Canadian CPA designation
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting roles; public company setting is an asset
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS Outlook in particular)
  • Experience with ERP software, ideally Microsoft Dynamics
  • Demonstrated capability as a team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • High degree of accuracy with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills in a fast-paced environment
  • A creative mind with an ability to suggest improvements
  • Ability to complete a satisfactory criminal record check
